Privacy Policy

Overview

Open Mailer is an open-source, local-first email client. The application runs on your device. We do not operate a hosted backend that stores your mail, credentials, or personal information.

Information we do not collect

Open Mailer does not send your email content, contacts, or account passwords to Open Mailer developers or operators. We do not operate user accounts, analytics dashboards, or advertising profiles for the desktop or mobile app.

Data stored on your device

When you use Open Mailer, data is stored locally on your device, including:

• Cached email messages and metadata for offline access
• App preferences and folder organization
• OAuth tokens and credentials, stored in your operating system keychain where supported

You can remove this data at any time by uninstalling the application and deleting its local data directory on your device.

Third-party email providers

If you connect Gmail, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, or another provider, Open Mailer communicates directly with that provider's services (for example Google Gmail API or Microsoft Graph) using credentials you authorize. Those providers process your data under their own privacy policies:

When you sign in with Google OAuth, Open Mailer requests only the scopes needed to read, organize, and send mail on your behalf. You can revoke access at any time from your Google Account security settings.

Website

The openmailer.app website is used to provide downloads, release information, and update metadata for the application. We do not require you to create an account to download Open Mailer. Standard web server logs may be collected by our hosting provider in the ordinary course of operating the site.

Open source

Open Mailer is open-source software. You can review how the application handles data by inspecting the source code in the project repository.

Children

Open Mailer is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
